UM6P engineering schools move classes online
In these times of sanitary crisis and confinement, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) just launched a platform of online classes with the aim of insuring the continuity of courses. The platform currently offers some 41 MOOCs, in free access, intended for UM6P’s students but also to students from Moroccan engineering schools.
Since the beginning of the month of April, UM6P insures pedagogical continuity to its students and to all the future engineers of the country who benefit from online courses through this new platform and thus benefit from UM6P and EPFL’s academic excellence. “We are convinced that the future of education in the world resides in digital. After integrating Edx, the worldwide online courses platform, our University has been committed in to this new project at the service of education in Morocco and Africa”, said Hicham El Habti, Secretary General of UM6P.
UM6P and EPFL consider extending this project to African universities in as part of their collaborative project “Excellence in Africa”, making UM6P the continental pioneer of production and broadcasting of MOOCs. Marti Vetterli, President of EPFL, confirms “It will certainly support other elements of this collaboration: the development of an African teaching and mentoring staff of 100 doctoral students”.
